My wife and I have fit a treadmill (unassembled) and a love seat in our 1st gen Scion xB with the hatch closed (not at the same time, of course).

That's 4x 225/45-17 tires stuffed into the trunk of my MkIV with the back seats still in place. I'm pretty sure it could haul a couch if you tried hard enough.

My Legacy wagon has made me question who actually needs a pickup truck.

(Yeah, it's a wagon and not a hatch. I'm poor and wagons are much cheaper than hatches around here.)
